III. There are many possible solutions to this problem. The possible solutions are: (Two articles must be attached and annotated bibliography.)
Legalizing euthanasia would be a great solution. People should not have to suffer if they do not have to. For example, pulling the plug on someone with life support is an example of euthanasia. Imagine a close friend or relative being in a terrible car accident. The accident leaves your friend or relative in a vegetative state, and for now, the only thing to do is to leave him/her on life support. If your friend or relative lives, then your friend or relative will have a very low quality of life. The only thing that your friend or relative can do is wait to die. If your friend or relative does not have to suffer, then why do their friends or relatives allow the suffering? People are understandably selfish for not wanting someone special to opt for euthanasia, but in the long run, euthanasia could be the best option for certain individuals. Ending the suffering should not be considered a crime. Also, people should be given the option to sign some kind of form that lets them choose euthanasia, but only if they are to undergo a life-altering procedure, or one that could compromise the well-being of an individual in any way, shape, or form.
IV. The solution I (we) propose is: (This section will become your proposed legislation. Be sure to include what agency will implement your law, proposed cost if any and effective date)
Be it enacted a federal law to allow euthanasia in all 50 states. Every individual who expresses the want for euthanasia needs to first talk to someone, be it a friend, a relative, or a medical professional, for a pre-determined amount of time. If the individual still wants to be euthanized after speaking with someone, then medical staff should assess whether or not the person who wants to be euthanized has a good reason to do so. A good reason shall be defined as follows: extreme pain (due to a terminal illness or disease), or having a low quality of life (with no simple and reasonable means to change said quality of life). All procedures needed to evaluate a person's qualification for euthanasia need to be approved of by the US Department of Health and Human Services.
V. I (we) think this solution will work because: (You must use factual information to prove your solution will work.)
35 of the 50 states have the death penalty. In other words, 35 states choose to kill criminals who have commited the most heinous of crimes, which is no different than homicide. If people want to end their own life, then they should be given the chance to do so. Metaphorically speaking, they will pull their own trigger, as opposed to having time or someone pull the trigger for them. They decide when they want to die, and in the end, it is an individual that should be able to decide how he/she wants to live his/her life, or in this case, end it.
